Privacy Policy for the RiseUp App

Last updated: 14 August 2026. This policy applies to the RiseUp app for iOS and Android. The online shop at rise-up.store is covered by a separate policy. The German version of this document is available at rise-up.store/pages/datenschutz-app and prevails in case of doubt.

1. Controller

RiseUp, owner: Tristan Häseker, c/o Adressgeber #2175, An der Alten Ziegelei 38, 48157 Münster, Germany. E-mail: info@rise-up.store

2. The short version

The app does not collect any data about you. There is no account, no sign-in and no server operated by us. The app contains no networking code of its own and no third-party libraries for analytics, advertising or crash reporting. We learn nothing about how you use it.

3. What is stored on your device

Everything the app needs stays on your device:

  • Your alarms, including time, label, weekdays, sound and the identifier of the assigned RiseUp Tag
  • Your streak, meaning days in a row, longest run, last scan and the goals you set during onboarding
  • Records of alarms that went off, plus counters for scans, snoozes and emergency stops, so the streak view can do its maths
  • Your settings such as language, appearance, volume and the number of confirmations
  • Alarm sounds you import yourself

4. The NFC tag

When you scan, the app reads only the fixed serial number (UID) of the tag. No content is read from the tag and nothing is written to it. That number belongs to a piece of plastic, not to you and not to your phone. It is stored with the alarm so the app can tell whether you scanned the right tag.

5. Backup in your own cloud account

So that your alarms and your streak survive a change of device, the app uses your operating system’s backup.

iOS: The app stores its data in your private iCloud database via CloudKit. That is your own iCloud account with Apple. We have no access to it and can neither view nor retrieve this data. You can turn synchronisation off for RiseUp at any time in the iOS settings under iCloud.

Android: The app uses Android’s automatic backup. Your data is stored in your Google account. We have no access to it either. You can turn automatic backup off in the Android settings.

In both cases the terms of Apple and Google apply to that storage. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, because the feature is part of the app you chose to use.

6. Permissions and why they are needed

  • NFC: to scan the tag and end the alarm
  • Notifications: to show the alarm
  • Alarms and exact alarms: to trigger the alarm to the minute, even when the app is closed
  • Start after reboot (Android): to restore your alarms after a restart
  • Media library (iOS): only if you choose one of your own songs as an alarm sound

The app does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone or health data. It accesses neither Apple Health nor Health Connect.

7. Crash reports

If the app crashes, it writes a report as a file on your device so the problem can be traced. That report is not sent anywhere. Independently of this, Apple and Google collect their own crash and performance data at operating system level, according to their rules and your settings, not ours.

8. In-app purchases

The app offers one optional purchase, “restore streak”. It is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play. We receive no payment data and store none.

9. No tracking, no advertising

The app uses no advertising identifier, no cross-app or cross-site tracking and no ad networks. The privacy manifest of the iOS app sets tracking explicitly to false.

10. Deleting your data

In the app settings you can delete everything: alarms, streak, history, imported sounds and the tag assignment. Uninstalling the app removes the local data with it. Copies in your iCloud or Google backup are removed through the settings of the respective account.

11. Your rights

You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority here is Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany.

Since we collect no data about you and have no access to your device or cloud data, we cannot provide information about you and cannot delete anything. Both are done by you, in the app and in your cloud account.
